Australia bans Zimbabwe Cricket Tour.

Good! A sensible decision. Why give a vile dictator good publicity and a bucket load of money to prop up his failing regime.

James has some of the background to banning sports tours and a quiz.

On the other hand, what right has a government to tell 22 guys when they can play cricket and when not?

Yes, it's a vexed issue. I wasn't aware that the ban had been imposed.

Yes. The ban was effectively imposed this morning. I think this is political as the Australian election moves into the next phase. I think Howard wanted the issue closed so that it was not a diversion as they attempt to claw back against the Labor Party, which is well ahead in the polls. I think most Australians are pretty sanguine about it all. At one level it would not be much competition and not many people would care much about the crikcet matches themselves.

Good point but i have to agree with the decision.

Try telling Nelson Mandela that sport and politics dont mix.
